Development: Yecora Rojo is a red seeded Yecora 70, short-statured, hard red spring wheat, 10-15 cm shorter than Anza. The spikes are white glumed, moderately lax with long spreading awns; spikes curved at maturity. Yecora Rojo is medium maturing, 2-3 days earlier than Cajeme 71 and should adapt to areas where Cajeme 71 is used.

Breeding History & Description: Yecora Rojo was developed by the International Maize & Wheat Improvement Center in Cooperation with the Mexican ministry of Agriculture in Mexico. It derives from a single red-grained plant selected from the cross (Ci and X Sonora 64 - Klein Rendidor) x 8156. It was first received in California in 1970. The seed produced in 1972 was designated breeders seed and the 1973 and 1974 production as foundation seed. The first release of foundation seed contained about 3% white seed and was not certified.
