We grow primarily to evaluate and increase heritage varieties of wheat and other small cereals adapted to our soil and climate in the Central Valley. We only sell whole grains when we have inventory excess to the needs of our mill. We provide heritage variety seed to regional growers to supply our mill, as well as buying directly from growers to meet our needs.

Durum-Iraq

Durum-Iraq (PI 481581) is a landrace durum wheat from Iraq. It is a spring type and has long black awns and pale yellow seed color. It grows well in the Sacramento Valley and offers the possibility of a supply for whole wheat pasta makers as well as bakers who know how to make pleasing whole durum wheat breads.

Hollis

'Hollis' hard red spring wheat was developed by the Agricultural Research Center of Washington State University in cooperation with the Agricultural Experiment Stations of the University of Idaho and Oregon State University and the USDA-ARS.

Sonora

Sonora, a soft white landrace wheat, has a history here in the Southwestern United States, because it is a variety grown early by the agricultural Native Americans in Mexico. They used it to make their whole wheat tortillas, and apparently liked the way it could be ground to a whole wheat flour on their metate. Sonora wheat might be the very first wheat successfully introduced onto the American continent soon after Columbus’s famous journey of discovery in 1492. It was grown in the Southwest continuously until about 1960.
